Jeep Renegade Trailhawk. Its small and compact, they drive pretty decently, and the look cool while being fun, plus you can take it on some pretty serious trails. You can get one a couple years old for under $25k easy, and may even be able to find a new one if you can get a dealer to stack enough incentives.
