“I don’t know when Hell on Earth started for me, but I think it had something to do with Christopher Cross.”

There are some interesting things about the behind the scenes of The Godfather - I highly recommend the book, Easy Riders/Raging Bulls, for anyone interested in that era of film.

It’s also telling how little he moved the needle, that backwards-pants-wearing, one-hit-wonder rap duo Kriss Kross is more relevant.

that’s....a very specific date.

when you’re rich you use your helicopter to fly away from messy situations, like your sociopath murderer husband’s arrest as a fugitive before he can possibly drag your son off the bridge with him.

I assumed it was Donald Sutherland’s helicopter he used to skip rush hour on the way to the lake house from time to time, and they were more going rogue tagging along than they were part of the search. Also looked like there were two helicopters right there moving in tandem when they were closing in.

My guess is to show the extreme degradation to his body from having lived in essentially a life support system for most of his life. After seeing him as this imposing and terrifying presence throughout the movies, it makes his reveal all the more pitiful. Exaggeration are part and parcel for theatrics.

Today’s technical challenge: create a slimy, swaddled mutant babything using these ingredients and a few hints as instructions...

The Great Lynch Bake-Off

I’d argue that without Gladiator we’d not have Game of Thrones. It brought back historical epics back. Also, it’s rumour that Joffrey was based on Joaquin Phoenix’s performance.

Whether you rate it or not, it’s hard to claim that Gladiator is a ‘mediocre shrug’. It launched two of its stars into super stardom, dominated top 10 lists for years to come, and essentially extended Ridley Scott’s career for another two decades.

So, it’s not this, then?

Scariest movie I’ve ever seen (was maybe 8 when it aired on network television, before cable existed). So great. Nobody could play a rich-girl invalid like Barbara Stanwyck! I still think of it when I hear a train whistle anytime near 11:15pm.

because then she’d be one step closer to becoming the Queen”

Show us on the doll where the royals touched you.

It does...just usually on the inside, not outside.

There’s something Trumpian about fabulously wealthy and famous artists whining about not getting nominated for/winning a Grammy.

Knew nothing about this before watching this week and absolutely loved it. In many ways, a safe period drama - not terribly diverse and slightly unrealistic in Beth’s meteoric rise with barely a barrier. However, I liked the series avoided melodramatic cliche. The orphanage is NOT run by monstrous perverts, she is. OT

Just listened to the Lovecraft Country podcast and one of the writers did say that the previous diner was owned by a white woman who dared to serve black people, which is why she was burned out

I loved the tension from the road trip crew being hunted by monsters... Didn’t even need those creatures at the end to show up. Not sure I’ve ever seen a monster movie where the monsters were just regular, racist rednecks, but it really played out that way.
