There should not be long term renting. Renting a hotel room is fine. A community of farmers splitting maintenance costs on a tractor since they only really need one by rental agreements is fine. I also believe there shouldn’t be any compound interest, and I believe that when banks foreclose on any loans, they should

Since you bought that bridge in Brooklyn, would you like a deal on a second one?

I have had a whole stack of stupid comments said to me today on these posts and I want highlight this one as the absolute dumbest comment today.

Honestly, without landlords, there would be a different system in place and buying would be cheaper. For instance, before renting was as big of a thing as it is now we had boarding houses. My grandfather went through boarding houses while away from home, and it cost 20% of his monthly pay and came with two free meals

What risk? Have you ever seen a single person ever go bankrupt because there was a problem at a building, or jail? Pretty much fucking never. Look at how bad Slum lords treat people, how many people they kill, and no one gives a shit. Fuck off. They take the risk? Bullshit.

Landlord bad because they have commodified and made housing artificially scarce by buying property they don't intend to live at or work in. As a fellow lower class worker, you should understand that, and want to work on making things better rather than getting in people's way.

Reganomics is largely to blame, although it did start earlier with McCarthyism.

I am Canadian, and Jean Cretien gutted our system when I was proper wee. He also fucked the whole building industry which led us to this crisis of population growth outstripping construction. Credit unions didn't become a serious thing until after 08, and unless you wanted to get a hand from a friend of a friend in

Can't, Bolsonaro sold off the Amazon to private interests. They are working hard at destroying it.

I am saying that In housing there is similar greed, callousness and disregard for human life. Given the mortality statistics of homelessness, housing is an easy to exploit system, much like any other system where life is on the like, such as medical care. In this, to some degree, life insurance is to medical care what

I didn’t say we should eliminate private property. A public option for property could be nice but that is a different argument all together.

Marxism is a framework to look at the world. Feminism is a framework. These are all critical lenses to examine our society. All frameworks, all critical lenses exist to judge society and point out things we forget about.

I don’t have the means to buy at this time because I have had to fork over 25-75% of my wages to landlords. They built up their wealth off of my labor.

Thanks, I hate it.

It is handy to point out that even the best landlords are still not that good. It’s like insurance salesmen. Even the best are still taking advantage of someone’s health. And housing is the best first step to maintain life, allows for more liberty and happiness.

You do know that for the vast majority of time, and for a large chunk of cultures in our world right now, living at home until is the norm. Capitalism in North America thrives by forcing people out of their home before it is economically viable, so that the people can be taken advantage of by employers and land Lords.

There are options other than landlords. Housing co-ops for one. I know plenty of successful housing co-ops in my community, and I have tried to get into them. The wait list is dishearteningly long because they are just that good.

They are examples of good landlords, and even then, they ain't good.

How is it dumb? They did nothing to earn their rents beyond having enough money to buy the already existing buildings.

Yeah! You can't criticise my dog fighting ring because you think my dog fighting ring should not exist.
