This is so backward... The type of crime we perceive as the most heinous have evolved in history. And the pain of the family shouldn’t be the criterion on how to try, judge and sentence people. Justice isn’t revenge, but restoring the peaceful civil order of the society.

But that is not what justice is about. It’s not about the family’s revenge, or closure, or whatever. It’s about society re-affirming what is right, and reinsure the right order for itself. Emotional reactions of the families shouldn’t matter, and law shouldn’t be passed thinking about just one subgroup rather than…
