@pz: How is heat an issue? You act as if just because something runs how it is going to have a lower life expectancy or perform worse. Power consumption doesn't really apply to core gamers as chances are they won't need a new PSU anyway. Fermi is designed to run hot, so it's a moot point.

@Wozamil: It was to be expected. NVIDIA went to a new architecture while ATI simply downscaled theirs. I would assume a fermi refresh will provide NVIDIA with the lead again.

@gloveofpower: The thing is, only the extremely low end cards are fanless. Unless of course you want low-mid range card and strap a huge aftermarket heatsink on it.

@anirudh15891: 5870 pushes more frames. The "heat issues" are a moot point. The 480 is designed to run hot. The GTX 285/275 also ran at this temperature. Hell my 285 once got to 103C. It depends what you want, NVIDIA has better performance with tesselation, PhysX, CUDA. ATI has better price/performance ratio excluding…

@ithyphallus, 13382: The funny thing is, many cards ran just as hot as the 480s. GTX 285, 4870x2, GTX 275, etc.

It looks much better in the preview pic. There is almost no glow there.

Funny thing is, backgrounder worked fine on my original ipod touch.... And apple couldn't even get a real multitasking function?
