I owned a 240,000 mile BMW with equipped with an M44 (318i). Arguably the most solid engine ive ever seen. Didnt burn oil, had a bit of clatter on startup, but it still did its thing. quite well at that. had to sell it because the shell had too much to replace, and parts are not cheap.
