I did look it up though since you piqued my interest. The HDDVD player cost $200 and came with a free movie/remote! And it was released in the same month as the PS3. So yeah.

On the Xbox 360, the HD-DVD peripheral was sold as an added peripheral for $200. It was not given for free unlike with the PS3, and IIRC it came out after the PS3. That's the key difference.
