@Janglesatwest: You can be a dreamer without accepting the idea of singularity. You dont have to beleive that the rate of change will continue to accelerate until we reach some sort of post human state to dream of FTL travel or holidaying on Mars or whatever.

@icelight: I dunno. It's not that lasers and diamonds do not improve a sentence. That's obvious and not up for debate. But, I think "using lasers and" does most of the heavy lifting there.

@SG-17: I guess you're thinking of the point where the signal becomes indistinguishable from the background noise? The signal strength is inversely proportional to the distance squared - even the most focused laser will spread.
