A couple other random thoughts:

I'm of the same opinion. There are parts of TFA I do like: mainly Daisy Ridley's Rey, and BB8.
As the article said, some of the most interesting and engaging stuff in TFA is before the main action begins, when Rey is just going about her daily life.

Just rewatched Rogue One, and really enjoyed it. Between the two, it's by far my favorite.
