If you reread my comment I specifically mentioned the firmware hacks for the 3DS, which you cannot connect to the internet for. They could not patch it out at all, unless the console connected to the internet.

You're completely right on your last point. I guess the fact that all I knew about it previously was from the documentary on Netflix. I don't think it's my kind of 'game', but I'm glad it's some people's kind of game.
