Both Gmail and Outlook let you set notifications for only important emails, by using the Priority Inbox/Focused Inbox features. I mark emails like the local pizza joint as not important/other email so that I don't get notified.

I got the same email. I went to my account’s security page to verify if there was unusual activity. I found that there was a lot of sign in attempts from places in SE Asia and Eastern Europe. 

They killed a free app, replaced it with a different free app, are killing that free app, and will be replacing it with yet another free app. Google only cares about your data. They can make more selling that than they can from selling you an app.
