@BlackYoshi7: We really don't need optical drives. Ever wondered why we call it media? It's a medium. We have plenty of mediums to use. And, many operating systems can be installed with a USB drive. Linux, OS X, and I'm sure Windows can be done, too.

@edosan: Synaptic is easier because you select a program, enter your password, and it installs it for you on the spot. No going to the store or dealing with discs or licenses or anything. Pretty simple stuff, really. Though, many of us use apt-get as it's even quicker than Synaptic. What can I say? Synaptic takes too

I had to learn to use Linux for a class in high school. I didn't make the switch back then because I was still doing PC gaming. I've since switched for a few reasons. I love what open-source stands for and prefer to use it over proprietary solutions. You can't get sued for copyright infringement. Frequent updates.
