I don't know about gas. What I understand from talking with appliance guys is that during a self clean cycle, the oven can heat up beyond specified levels and thus blow its fuses to save itself (and your house) from dying.

Ditto, I blew a fuse in my oven with the self cleaning cycle. Apparently it's extremely common.
