I feel like the phrase “plot hole” get overused. I realize this is a bit like screaming about Alanis Morisette’s definition of irony, but “plot hole” doesn’t mean “literally any question I have that isn’t perfectly answered to my satisfaction.” It means a logical contradiction or gap in the story. So, if Superman dies…
Captain Marvel. The only thing that bugged me was the “I’m just a Girl” sound cue. A better way to do that would be an action/orchestral version of the song where people wouldn’t recognize the tune right away and it might hit them later in the scene, or after the movie as a late-discovered Easter egg type thing.
Watched Captain Marvel with my 14 year-old daughter on Friday. We absolutely loved it. The next day I got this. #fangirlin’
Captain Marvel, twice (I dug it, both times, B) and my niece’s hula recital (lacking in Stan Lee, B-).
Now I’m just picturing a bunch of old ladies drinking tea and talking about Groot: “I liked the first Groot. So polite and helpful. But I don’t care for this teenage Groot. He’s very rude, and he needs to get that foliage trimmed.”
More importantly...“the average person” in the States does care, at least tangentially, about the MCU as a reliable producer of above-average to very good summer action movies.
In the film she says she’s a test pilot because women aren’t allowed to fly combat missions (which was actually not true; Captain Marvel takes places in 1995, two years after the ban on women combat fighters was lifted
Yeah, the only thing I can compare this to isn’t even The Sopranos, but The West Wing; even with the show in wind-down, losing John Spencer (only 7 years older than Luke Perry at the time, holy cow!) was a massive blow that forced a (fortunately) somewhat easier rejiggering of the plot.
I’ve decided that’s this show in a nutshell—building up suspense and then totally squandering it because they have so many plots running they literally don’t have time for payoffs. Case in point: 2 Whole Seasons of building Falice romantic tension, then when they finally get together, it happens either off-screen or…
State of camping facilities depends on each local council, still not directly related to ‘boy’ or ‘girl’ organization. GS camps in my state, and neighboring are pretty darn amazing...
Truly confounded by all the Franken backlash I see posted about her. I see lots of comments along the lines of “we need Franken back he was a great senator and leader!! Fuck her for doing that to him!!”
She was also “metoo” before #metoo was a thing. I like her a lot and I like that she is not some sparkly flavor of the month. She’s tough without being showy and in it for the long haul.
The Franken thing, because apparently the woman who built her career on going after sexual assault and harassment was supposed to hand him a hall pass.
According to 538, Gillibrand has the most anti-Trump voting record of any Democratic senator. Sounds ok to me.
The discussion and analysis of people who commit sexual harassment and abuse doesn’t necessarily mean they are equal crimes.
I did not say the allegations against CK or R. Kelly are the same anywhere in this post. I’m talking about a common attitude in the entertainment industry that lets men off the hook for a whole spectrum of abuse and sexism because they’re artists.
And Best Chris aka Chris Evans who IS Captain America calls Trump out regularly. (hence his designation as Best Chris)
What I learned from this article is that most of the people in charge of the comedy world probably don’t know the details of what CK did, either because they couldn’t bother to read the stories or because they willfully chose to ignore it. It’s a lot easier to forgive someone when all you know is vague details about…
I mean, Chris Evans is number one. But also, we need some more color up in this collective. Why all white dudes?
