His statement does not deserve praise. He released a shitty statement that was all about his ego. It is gross. He was gaslighting women for years and he sat back while his stans harassed anyone who brought up the rumors. And when he was asked about the rumors not long ago he lied about everything.

Yes he conveniently omits his flat out denials/lies, most recently tied to the TIFF showing of his now-shelved film. His references to the power imbalance & his industry status sound somewhat God-like and also vaguely condescending - all these women who admired him, looked up to him... it’s not even a good apology. He’s jacking himself off saying his power was that they “admired” him, rather than, you know, his power being that he was the head of a writers room or was friends with other powerful people or whatever else it may have been.

Mansplaining and being condescending are not the same thing. Mansplaining is a gendered behavior where the man assumes to know (more) about a subject by virtue of his gender and assumes that a woman needs it explained to her because of her gender. If it’s not a gendered situation, it’s not mansplaining.
