You beat me to it, except you forgot the part about them wondering why they need you, since everything's working. I doubt VFX guys have to put up with that mentality, since they have a very visible and tangible output to point to.

Oh, really?

That's only true if all the contracts in question are transferable in the event of an acquisition. A lot depends on the contract language, and many times contracts aren't transferable.
