They aren’t very different at all. In fact you could hot swap 2d sprites and 3d models in this video pretty easy and the game play would remain the same. This is just “cooler” because of the nostalgic juxtaposition.
To be honest though... while Mewtwo do not come with any stage of his own per se with his DLC, his pricing is still onpar with a lot of other fighting games.
And stage wise, it’s already confirmed the new major patch to the game is going to add at least the Miiverse stage amongst others. And possibly new gameplay modes…
