Two reasons....

Replay has not helped. Take away replay except for egregious calls that the league can overturn from the truck (see K. Durant, out of bounds.)

Where are the social media and national adds from other shoe companies? Now that Zion is not seriously injured, they gotta be all over this. I demand some spicy corporate warfare!

He should play. If anything happens he can sue Nike for a billion dollars and I think these guys buy insurance anyway.

And such a great fit for NY fans and media!

Great point. We already had the Hampton’s Five.

If he doesn’t like the attention that comes with celebrity, then he doesn’t have to take the money or power that comes with celebrity, right?

Even the mascot has the classic spartan wtf expression and is pointing at his temple like “think about it, Patti.”

Good point. It’s just the fact that if in fact they made a great signing, they lose the guy when he potentially has a couple more good years. But I get the point and it means on the flip side if he opts out some other team ends up paying for his past performance.

The opt out after 5 years is underappreciated here. What a great option for a player and just means the Padres are guaranteed not to get a great deal because if he over performs he is gone and if he tanks he is locked in.

I’m convinced the problem is corporate dominance of season tickets and game revenue. Corporations are much less fickle than fans when it comes to buying tickets and they demand corporate level luxury and entertainment, which drives up costs. Regular fans stop going to some degree if the team sucks.

Tim Duncan stayed in one forever, so that counts. But you’re right, a small number. If Kawhi stays there might be some kind of point that things are shifting away from just the mega markets.

Brilliant, man. Just think how much could Gandhi could have gotten from the British.

This captures for me why AD is a 2nd tier talent. Just lacks some level of basic intelligence/savvy. I can’t see Westbrook, Harden, Curry, Giannis, LeBron (ok, “taking my talents” but still....) doing something like this. AD is in now solid Carmelo, Kyrie, Blake Griffin, Dwight Howard range in terms of neck down only t

We’re just in the bottom dregs of an absolute shit barrel of MBA- and quant-driven assholes who are reducing all of life to some cost value analysis and sucking joy and pleasure and anything human out of what’s left of life. I mean, that one year is going to be some magical elixir for this franchise that it is so

the numbers only look more staggering after Monday night: 37.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.7 assists, 2.5 steals, shooting 50 percent from the field and from the arc through 10 games, all paired with his trademark defense. If that’s not the MVP, it’s pretty damn close.

NBA executives, and especially owners, are generally cowards who hide behind a non-strategy like tanking instead of taking some calculated risks and competing.

Your prognostication was the right one. I tip my hat.

So with the latest Lakers offer of Ingram et al and picks, Davis goes to L.A. before the weekend right? They can wait but it’s not getting sweeter and they will be outfoxed by any other team. Plus Davis is telling them he won’t sign, so no one else should back up the Brink’s truck.

So is this like continuation fouls where you can pretty much keep fouling the guy on the way to the basket because he’s already been fouled? Like, can Davis just keep tampering as much as he wants until he’s traded since he’s already paid the fine?
