This is the sort of vehicle you'd likely see at your local ski slope, or at your run of the mill Antarctic expedition. Where conventional tires may fail, tracks won't.

I see it more as a problem with brake clearance.

Google-fu reveals the most likely answer is the Cagbird for VS-33 "Screwbirds" which had gloss black upper surfaces. NASA's are white with blue stripes.

I had to double check that we were actually getting this, and it wasn't just Japan that was gifted the awesome stuff for once.

I'm actually totally ok with this. It's like a cleaner smaller Cayenne, with much better detailing and design resolution, and will probably be a fraction of the price. And offered with a Manual? If I were shopping for a mini SUV, KIA would shoot to the top of my list if this dropped in the US.
