What made the originals so special, imho, is that they were technical feats, getting the PS1 to do the seemingly impossible. The making of the series is surprisingly fascinating and makes you realize what they were able to accomplish. I never actually got into the series but have a newfound respect for the developers

I can’t help but wonder if the hardware will improve performance, like minimize slow-down, or if everything will run the exact same... If I remember correctly, much of Ghouls n Ghosts was basically like playing in slow motion, for one example. But still neat, esp. including Star Fox 2.

Waiting for either a sale on the new Sony 1080p HDR TVs or someone like oCosmo to come out w/ their own version. That’d be tight.

Awesome article about an awesome game. Was always disappointed the PC Engine version never had a US release but happy that we at least got the Sega CD version (albeit less colors). Never did beat it since I lost my save due to power outage... :( Gotta play it again! :D

I don’t know about this but Xenoblade X you could literally turn off all the on-screen UI elements, and customize it to your liking. That’s why I don’t get why people used that as a criticism of that game - I mostly played w/ just my skell fuel gauge and mini-map. Squarenix might not give us such options though :/

That feeling when you used to own now valuable video games :( Hagane was my jam, awesome (and hard AF) game. Side note, also used to have MUSHA (Gen) & Dracula X (PCE). Sick titles that still hold up today, prolly why so $$$$$!

“an 18 year-old arcade game” damn I feel old now... SFIII, the last great Street Fighter imho.

OMG! I loved Shubibinman 3 (PC Engine)!

Totally, Bravely Default in 3D was legit. Also Luigi Dream Team, Kid Icarus, & Star Fox (!!!).

Hey, the glasses free 3D was awesome, I had always hoped it would make its way to laptops, but I guess not if Nintendo owns the patent? I know there was a tech demo, maybe Asus? Never came to be. Funny thing about “3D is dead or gimmick” trolls is that it’s part of what makes VR so immersive.

Now I want to go back and play all the fan translations of games!
Even after a game gets and official release I feel like the fan translations deserve some love since they put in so much effort! Ys IV (PCE), FF Type-0 (PSP), Bahamut Lagoon, Secret of Mana 3, & Tales of Phantasia (SFC/SNES) just to name a few.

Great article. I had no idea this was a thing now. Of course, to me there is nothing worse than online multiplayer & FPS games. Makes me wonder if I might be partially autistic after reading... Heck, even Western RPGs bug me out w/ choice paralysis [& stressful outcome paranoia] with those damn conversation choices,

Also helps carpal tunnel from too much regular mouse use! Got one for work and it’s awesome. I have a really old Compaq laptop that gave you the option of swapping out the touchpad module w/ a mini trackball and it remains one of the coolest things ever. (It also has a sweet mechanical keyboard!)

Fatal Rewind on Sega Genesis was the first game I remember doing this and is what I always think of whenever I see a game do this, like Braid. If you have no idea what I’m talking about it, look it up. One of those weird, nearly impossible games from Shadow of the Beast era Psygnosis.

As someone who’s been thinking of moving to NYC lately, I have now instantly reconsidered... Also, bedbugs.

Well, this might be an indicator of things to come for Virtual Console (on Switch)...

they changed the teeth on the mask :( why do the live action film makers always have to change things?! argh, sigh
edit: the mask I got online looks more accurate, ha!

Sounds like Rick & Morty alien words!

But... a live action Death Note was already made.
Let’s see, every foreign film remade by Americans has been a disaster, don’t expect much...

wait, what? how is Pikmin on here (for example) and not Xenoblade Chronicles X? Seriously? (Also, Fast Racing Neo.)
