Bill Cosby isn’t an accused serial rapist--he was convicted.

We can’t. We are prohibited by federal law (EMTALA) from refusing treatment to anyone who presents themselves to an emergency room with an emergent condition. Refusal would not only generate lawsuits, but jeopardize the federal funding that allows us to take care of all our patients, regardless of ability to pay.

We don’t have any unvaccinated employees in our ED for the same reason. Almost all of us have gotten boosters, too, but some are still delayed due to scheduling issues within our system.

I think it was less about blackmail, since all the men involved were doing the same thing, and by facilitating it, Epstein’s crimes were worse than all of theirs.

I don’t think you can reach or even ask for any kind of deal after you are convicted. Things like that are worked out to avoid trial by pleading guilty to lesser charges or less time or more lenient conditions. Once a defendant is convicted, the state has no reason to offer any deals.

The beach somewhere? They were both there for their biology courses first year of undergrad (my brother was in the UK for a year as part of his scholarship) and my SIL is from Kent. They were assigned to the same tide pool, and met over slimy samples and creatures.

Our police officers are wonderful with deescalating fraught and angry situations. I wish all police were like them.

Nice! My brother met his wife in Pembroke.

Darwin is a Welsh Pembrokeshire Corgi.

Thank you!

Thank you, OWYAC.

Willful ignorance and selfishness. I’m sick of it beyond words, and heartbroken every time I hear of nurses leaving shifts in tears. Even the ED nurse managers have had to step out for a cry sometimes because they have no way to solve what they are up against.

A pupdate and some personal updates:

They will never believe anything they do puts them in the wrong.

Even if they hear no, they don't believe it, and therein lies the difference.

And 23-hour workdays for some.

There is obviously no way for me to know you worked in RT. So many laypeople confuse STEMIs with arrests that I wanted to sort it out and maybe help people know what to do who are not BLS certified. Sometimes, it helps to remember that comments on a public forum aren't just for one person to read.

CPR isn’t useful on a living person. The best way to treat a STEMI in progress is to give sublingual nitro (1 tab every 5 minutes with a max of three doses in 15 minutes) and 4 chewable tablets of baby aspirin and call 911. If there is no nitro on hand, then give the aspirin alone and call.
