Yeah it was odd in a 'this guy is socially awkward' kind of way, but I still wasn't expecting the rug pull it does at the end which shed a new light on the scene for me.

It does something really clever and creepy with the early scene where he picks up the toy for that little girl though. You see it two completely different ways if you rewatch that scene after finishing the episode.
