Because the POINT of Blazing Saddles is to shit on racists. The fact that people feel the need to put a disclaimer about racism on it is a severe own goal.

I don’t generally look for good character development in 10 minute comedic cartoon shorts from nearly 100 years ago.

But we’ve entered a world where Blazing Saddles needs a disclaimer to inform the public that the racists in the movies are the baddies.

Pepe got comeuppance a lot in the old cartoons. He’s supposed to be an oblivious character who can’t foresee that the cat is going to smash him with a mallet, and he’s there to be laughed at.

And you know it’s a negative because no one makes the punchline “you go through men faster than Leonardo DiCaprio goes through the newest models”.

The audience was out of hand.

The issue is less with not enjoying Citizen Kane and more in his “no films made before 1975" rule and his implication that there’s nothing for modern audiences in that film or others from its era.
