I’m not sure but off the top of my head, I think 4-6 months? The events with Charlie happen pretty quick but I think the golden ticket contest goes on for a bit before Charlie finds his.

He doesn’t have a job though. At the start he’s recently lost his job at the toothpaste factory and in the epilogue they mention he gets a better job than he had previously, but the mother is the only breadwinner throughout the story.
