‘Star Trek: Federation’ sounds awful. People always want to make Star Trek ‘more interesting’ by showing the ‘dark side’ of the Federation, etc. It really is just total laziness. What was brilliant and unique about Star Trek, and TNG especially, is that it was utopian in its outlook. That’s what made it groundbreaking

I don’t know anyone who found it more than mediocre. But more than that, all the post-hype seems to be in articles about it that don’t have a lot of real engagement. Just something I noticed. I suspect Netflix is trying a new PR strategy where it creates fake ‘word of mouth’ hype after a show airs rather than

The hype around this show is way too forced. I’m guessing it’s coming out of the Netflix PR department and isn’t organic. There doesn’t actually seem to be much engagement with it.

They explored this a bit in Star Trek: Voyager.

2033. Donald Trump is President from 2017-2025, followed by Donald Trump Jr 2025-2033. Mission launches shortly after Ivanka Trump’s 2033 inauguration. That’s why there aren’t any Hispanic or Middle Eastern astronauts.

“If Marvel can make Scarlett Johanson believable as a superhero, they can do the same for Larson”

Do you watch Chinese movies? They often cast Japanese actors.

There’s an awful lot of geisha in those set photos to be anywhere but Japan.

Man, I thought he’d lost weight.

The Donnie Yen and Forest Whitaker photo looks like a scene from an awesome Star Wars universe buddy cop movie.

My hope is that Negan misses, wheels around, hits himself in the head, dies, and we never have to hear another one of his monologues again.

This is complete nonsense. Japanese actors appear in Chinese productions and vice versa. There’d be no problem at all casting someone Japanese.

I wonder kids understand any of the pop culture references in the original films anymore. They’re not made to last.

There’s something about the concept of Now You See Me that’s so appealing it overrides the reality of the terrible movie that is Now You See Me. I kind of hope they’ll keep making sequels until they reach that Fast and Furious sweet spot where it’s all so ridiculous it becomes entertaining.

I suppose it needs to be full of the kind of bland self-referential quips that made The Force Awakens so forgettable.

Has anyone done a comparative study of the survival rates of lesbian characters vs Asian characters on TV shows?

I could understand it if they transferred it to the US and made everyone American and the cast reflected that. That would make sense. But keeping it in Japan with Japanese names while using non-Japanese actors is just bizarre.

I thought this comment was crazy, but you’re probably just 1-2 years ahead of the curve, and talking about male family members will soon be a legitimate feminist outrage.

“Would it be in bad taste ... as an American” NEVER!

    Are they watching “Into Darkness”?
