Sure, but some are definitely comedies while others are most definitely not. For example, Big Lebowski, Hudsucker, Oh Brother, Hail Caesar, Raising Arizona all clearly comedies. Fargo, Blood Simple, Barton Fink, etc. most definitely NOT comedies.

Maybe its not ALL his fault, but I need to direct my ire somewhere.
The interweb is a big place, full of lots of folks with big appetites.
I was referring to the Dude and Maude, at least I think I was.
Yeah, I almost totally agree. The Coen brothers are widely considered two of our most intelligent and craftsman-like filmmakers, which reputation they built up over the late 80's and through the 90's, so I think that's why they are given so much leeway. Even their flops are better than 99% of what comes out of…
We can agree to disagree, but I certainly didn't mean to offend you. Opinions are like assholes so they tell me :).
Yeah, but he was a scientologist before he started trashing it, so there's that. I mean, seriously, who the fuck is stupid enough to become a scientologist, and why does the fucking spell check red-underline scientologist but not Scientologist? Its not a fucking religion for jesus the lord's sake.
Yeppers. I blame him for being "most responsible man in America" for the seemingly omnipresent idea that true reality is meaningless, pointless, miserable and psychotic.
SPOILER ALERT!
Its really more Hitlarious.
Speaking of which, I really can't stand that guy.
There were some funny situations/lines, but it was NOT a comedy.
Ugh. She was really brilliant. Bridges was great too, but I actually think Matt Damon turned in the better performance of the two. Maybe its because he had the less familiar, more interesting character to play, but Damon really brought something to the role.
Heh, True Grit is their least gritty film in a long time, is what I'm saying. But honestly, I wouldn't ever say something so glib about the Coen's films. I respect them as film makers, its just that almost all their work over the past 17 years or so has left me pretty cold and I'm not sure why.
I vote for Jeffrey and Maude Lebowski. Though I don't know if they are actually a couple, and won't know until "The Big Lebowski 2: Revenge of the Urban Achievers" comes out.
ding! It also has the finest use of film of all time.
I guess you're not familiar with their silent, imageless series of art films.
And its been downhill since ;). Well, at least since the CIA installed the Shah and his terror cops.
Unfortunately, for me I guess, I haven't enjoyed almost any of the Coen's films for many years. Perhaps its my fault, but I don't think so. I do think its safe to say their best work is far behind them. Once they started churning out Hollywood dreck like Intolerable Cruelty it almost all seems too thin and inhuman.…
Exactly.
