Yes - I agree with this. The author said widescreen was coveted but didn’t mention who is asking for that aspect ratio. If all you want to do is watch media then you certainly don’t need a $600 tablet in the first place, regardless of aspect ratio.

Do you understand which processor is in this phone? It’s 6 months old, it isn’t “a year or two old”. This isn’t stagnation or signs of a rudderless company - it’s a small phone with the latest and greatest hardware inside.
