Because it will be cheap, which means people will buy millions of them for the holidays. Bezel does look funky, but at least it makes it one-handable.

You have some good points, but Maps really doesn't seem that bad for me. Occasionally in the Google Maps app I'd search for something and it would give me a result across the country. It's not like that app was perfect, you just have to cope and realize it will get better over time. Plus Google will release a Maps app

I walked in the Apple store and they had dozens of them. So if you live near one that's an easy solution. $19 might seem steep, but they gets lots of use and should be useful for quite a while.

I just don't even get why if you had a Thunderbolt drive it's been neglected. Did they mean a Thunderbolt PORT? Nothing is a no-brainer!

"If your computer has a Thunderbolt drive, odds are it's been pretty neglected. Some external storage options are good, but nothing is a no-brainer."

yeah, looks like flipboard

try appshopper. You can see price history and make a wishlist.

The only explanation I can come up with is they have no idea that there are comfortable alternatives out there.

The oncreen apps show up through the video? Not just some mirrored app on the headunit that uses USB to communicate with the phone? Why would only some apps work then? If the video feed was there then it should work for all apps, correct?

Have you looked at Virgin Mobile's plans? $35/mo for 300 minutes and unlimited data/text. My AT&T grandfathered iphone data plan has been $80 for years. $45/mo in savings is enough to justify a new phone every year, or huge savings over 2 years. How is that being poor?

$50 is significant to some buyers. Look at the old iPod mini that was $50 less but had a tenth of the storage. $149 is a price point that they'll be able to sell at, regardless of how it actually compares to the other products. Remember this is for holiday gifts...

I don't think I agree with that rationalization. How likely are you to browse stuff when you only have Edge? Now just apply that forward. If you can do things quickly you will be more likely to do them often.

The thing I've always liked about my iPhone is that everyone else has one. This means that if there's a firmware bug, production issue, whatever, it's front page news and it gets fixed quick. HTC/Samsung/Moto roll out new models every week and they never bother to fix issues with existing one. I've been in that

Confused. You put your phone in dock with the bottom of the phone facing the ground? Isn't that a pain in the ass when you pull it out? Then your phone is upside down...

What's wrong with headphone jack on the bottom? I prefer this - if it's in your pocket your phone isn't upside down. If it's on your desk the cord doesn't have to wrap around from the top. What's the advantage of having the port on the top?

Are you still in SB? My girlfriend's in the auto industry here, so we know some auto journalists... it's such a small town though that I'm guessing we'd have already met if you were still living in the area.

Earlier today when clicking on links to articles (in blog view), I'd get jumped down to the comments and not see the story. Is that a bug?

I think that it's more likely that they weren't fixing non-critical issues in the previous version because they were working on this new rewrite, which will now be the supported version.

Then you're essentially losing another bit, right? base64 uses 64 characters, so 6-bit instead of the 7-bit SMS. So you'll double the cost again?

Seriously. How is that "lobbying hard?" Isn't that chump change for lobbying? I would assume this means Zynga DOESN'T want online gambling - otherwise they'd be throwing 10x the money at the problem.
