I think sometimes people feel personally attacked and don’t realize it’s mostly just fun fantasy and story telling and by judgement we mean momentary and passing notice.

Yes this! finances don’t need to be joint. I even take turns with friends for coffee and lunch sometimes.
I tend to pay for my friends coffees and lunches and vice versa. And I’m super lazy. It’s easier for us, not joint finances, just to pay one off. Why both twice with the machine, twice the work for the waitstaff. Just get me next time.
