I’d love to know what goes on inside the minds of those who, after hearing the news of the death of an icon like Prince, decide the best way to honour his memory is not to, say, post a video of a rare live performance they love, or write a post about how important he was to them, but instead share a clip of him

Glad I found one FJM fan in the comments! Everyone here seems down on him for being a hipster stereotype, but whether or not that’s the case (I think he’s very intentionally a bit of a self-parody personally) he is an amazing musician. I Love You Honey Bear is hilarious, sweet, disturbing. Love it.

Oh God, I’d forgotten about Keane. I take it all back haha.

Yeah, it’s silly. If we described every band with members who have questionable attitudes to women ‘shitty’ then we’d be calling The Beatles a shitty band.

Are they shitty bands though? Not to my taste (apart from The Spice Girls) but I wouldn’t describe them as shitty. Anyway, I realise not every band nominated for The Mercury is amazing, I just meant it’s generally a good sign that they’re fairly highly regarded, rather than just some indie chancers.

All the people further up the page saying ‘we’re not slut-shaming we’re attention-shaming’ are so full of shit. Do they realise that people who slut-shame don’t famously own up to it? People don’t say ‘Oh yeah, I’m slut shaming for sure’. They use code phrases like ‘attention seeking’ ‘setting a bad example’

This is exactly it. People think saying ‘I hate the Kardashians’ is code for ‘I’m really intellectual’. But it just comes off as being a whiny crybaby who has nothing better to do than have conversations about how much they hate someone they don’t even know.

It’s pretty obvious she was joking in her caption about having nothing to wear...not using it as a pretext for showing us her body. She wanted to post a naked picture and she did so because she’s confident enough. People just can’t get over that.

I think Miles Kane is a dick by the sounds of it, and 100% glad he’s being called out for it. That being said, I really like the band (questionable name aside) and I’m quite surprised to see them described as ‘shitty’ in the title. They were even nominated for the Mercury Prize in the UK, which is certainly not

Yeah, love the song, love her but...this was really bad. I know she’s not regarded as the world’s greatest vocalist but this was just lazy.

Jimmy Savile has been accused of over 200 sexual assaults spanning 50 years, including assaults on children as young as eight in hospitals he visited as a ‘charity ambassador’. I don’t believe what David Bowie did is excusable, but you really can’t compare these two.

I think those lyrics are from pre-Kardashian Kanye. Not to say they don’t apply though.

Interestingly enough this is a lyric from Jay Z’s 100$ Bill (Gatsby soundtrack): “Took that, Taylor Swift to a hundred-fucking-million, bitch. I’m a let ya’ll continue but...” So Kanye is not even original with this diss. At Jay he didn’t suggest she owed him sex I suppose? Still kind of a dick thing to say though.

How do people want him to react? That’s a really good question. Should he have not said anything about it? Should he have pretended not to be shocked by it? Anyone?

I don’t like his stand-up myself, or really his presenting of the Golden Globes, but he’s a very talented writer and actor. Not sure if you’ve seen the British version of The Office or Extras? Not for everyone of course, but they’re very popular.

I wanted a pet for so long and ended up getting a reject gerbil my mum’s friend was giving away because she’d mistakenly got a male and female and the male ate several of the resulting gerbil babies. Unsurprisingly I was never particularly fond of him.

That is true. It is kind of derailing the main point of ‘it shouldn’t matter whether she’s black or not’, which is always annoying. It just seemed like a strange tweet to choose to illustrate the racist backlash as there must be so many others and this one is just someone nitpicking.

I don’t think this specific tweeter is a troll though, i think s/he is saying the same as you: that Hermione probably was white in the original book but that it really doesn’t matter (and in fact is a good thing) that a black actor has now been cast in the role. It even says under the picture from the book ‘I’m all

Maybe not 100% relevant but he’s Saudi, not English as far as I’ve understood.

But the problem here is if you in all cases believe the victim until they are (potentially) proven to be lying, then you automatically impose ‘guilty until proven innocent’ on the accused. I suppose it’s just ‘innocent until proven guilty’ in public opinion for the victim and ‘innocent until proven guilty’ for the
