Having a scotsman play a spaniard with a muddled scottish accent and a frenchman play a scot with a God-knows-where-it's-from Eurotrash accent is inspired casting.

I think it's because he's a young guy with the persona and mannerisms of a middle-aged guy. Like Fred Savage before him. The creators of whatever movie or show he's in usually identify with him as a surrogate for themselves at that age.
