how black women are reflected in his work (barely and poorly)

Remember when I said that I AM a blerd?

I can’t tell anyone to “get blacker,” since I don’t know what that means. But preferences...sigh...I don’t even have the strength to go into these mysterious “preferences” that are just naturally formed in a vacuum, apparently...

I understood what she meant. She said that there is a kind of black man who shits on Black women. And she thinks Donald Glover is that kind of black man. I have never read any of the interviews she references but I’m not entirely comfortable with his portrayal of black women on that show. With the exception of Van

Um...my boyfriend is a blerd. I’M a blerd. And since we’re Olds, that bullshit idea is nothing new. It’s still bullshit and an excuse that blerds (mostly the men) use to do something they simply want to do, and give stereotypical, negative excuses about how terrible Black women are. Date who you want, but don’t

Right?! But no, I’m just an insecure Black woman who hates all interracial relationships, apparently.

What if we actually do mean all white people?

I pointed that out above and all the racist trolls as well as others demanding that I explain why I hate interracial dating came out of the fucking woodwork.

I wouldn’t say I have their back.

There’s no creature on this earth that feels more threatened than a middle-aged, middle-class, rural, white dude.

Thank you. He needs to work on his obvious issues with black women at least before we start the hype machine.

Say this one again for the kids in the back

I think the whole shirtless thing he’s doing a statement about having more Black skin on TV - the obligatory musicians’ “fuck you” to the establishment. In Hollywood is it rare that we see; let alone think of Black skin as attractive. In the video ‘This is America’ it was my assumption he was portraying the naked -

It’s also worth remembering that ‘critical acclaim’ is a euphemism for white people’s acceptance and that is what is Glover is enjoying right now. That’s not to take away from his talent and accomplishments or suggest that black people don’t love him or that our love doesn’t matter. But the success he’s enjoying is

Celebs who do this often say “they keep their private life private” except of course you’re a celeb so that’s mostly impossible. In Donalds case he’s had some of his most celebrated work be Afrocentric media that explicitly attempts to tell black stories and perspectives that are often ignored.

Yes, that is the correct takeaway. Let’s all body shame him.

I enjoyed the video and his show but he gets the side eye from me. I just don’t trust him from past things he’s said.

I am at the point, where any artists/entertainers has to rely on colorism and misogynoir (yes.... Misogynoir), in order to help them gain fame and gain a massive following, then they can trip and fall off a mountain for all I care.

I’m also not here for it, because i’m already seeing extra spicy takes about Glover having a white lover and interracial children. This all feels like Hotep bait and i’m not here for it. Celebrate the art. Celebrate the artist. Don’t worship any of these niggas, you’ll be disappointed.
