Exactly. I felt like Betty’s fate would be death by a million cuts as her looks started to seriously fade. This way is painful, but she would go out beautiful, in essence giving her what she’s always wanted - eternal beauty.

I’m late on this post, but I don’t think Betty herself realized how unhappy she was, and how much she was fighting herself. Part of her really wanted the dream: the stay at home housewife/mom, because that meant that you made it. It took a while for the realization to filter to her in suburbia that women were starting

Everyone on Gawker claimed that it was because we’re arming our police force with military weapons, police start to internalize the military mindset.

Depends where you live. If you live in NJ, I say absolutely buy bottled water. You guys have no choice.

I’m sorry this is an old post, but My Fitness Pal is killing me. I am trying desperately to stay on the 1200 calorie count, but when an apple is like 80 calories, it seems I’m always over by about 100 calories. I’m starving, by the way. STARVING all the time.

    I missed that?

I love it so much more than YouTube.

Yes, but Cindy Crawford looks kind of. . . plastic surgery-y these days.

You know what’s fucked up? I tended to be a lot more, for lack of a better word, manly in my work dealings. Direct, unapologetic, etc. I’m a middle manager in my own right, and I kept being hauled into my boss’s office because the other male manager had issues with the way I was doing thing.

I just watched this. This is the most hilarious thing, ever.

There was also the story of that plane where the screws putting on a new windshield were too small, and the windshield blew out, taking the pilot with it.

Yes, they may all talk like this in the beginning, but it’s likely that a minority become the psycho stage moms you’re referring to, and you just never see the mothers that bow out gracefully when the child decides the leave the business. It’s a self-selecting prophesy.

Agreed. He seemed wise and gentle. The actor that replaced him seemed more confounded and blustery. Like he played parts with more anger than the text intended.

I guess. Obviously, I have no say in what you want to do with your life (and death), but I just feel like it’s more environmentally sound to fertilize the earth.

“Immediate burial” is actually cheaper than cremation with ceremony. And if you add extras, cremation can cost up to $6000.

You’re right. It doesn’t. Jewish burial doesn’t allow embalming, coffins that aren’t made of a specific type of wood (and even then, it’s preferable to just be wrapped in a sheet) and entombing/concrete. The reasons are because death is supposed to be part of the circle of life. Our hubris, believing our dead

Every city has their own rules regarding burial. Some require tombs (New Orleans), some require nothing but a sheet. Most insist on some kind of coffin. You can request a wooden coffin with holes, no embalming, done.

I understand the fear about bugs eating you when you die, but why cremation? I don’t get why fire is a relief from that fear? Or why we’re so resistant to the idea of returning to the ground and letting our flesh feed it?

That’s why I really don’t understand why people embalm themselves. Let’s ensure that I am a toxic waste site forever, leeching chemicals into the surrounding void forever while my husk of a body shrivels but never quite disintegrates!

    Bee Shaffer is incredibly gorgeous.
