"Vocal internet fan base" is quite likely one of Netflix's KPIs though given that they don't rely on traditional measurements like Nielsen ratings.

Yes, please.

I'm confused as well. I know Netflix doesn't release viewer numbers and may not measure success in the same way as traditional TV, but I thought plenty of people watched this show.

I'd love a David Mitchell novel.

Well, that sucks. Season 2 ends on massive cliffhanger that I suppose will never be resolved now.

That's why I'm disappointed there won't be a second season. It was clearly headed in the direction of exploring groups like Run DMC and PE, but it first had to show how hip-hop originated at block parties.

I somewhat disagree that it doesn't provide any closure. Several of the characters end on cliffhangers, but the season itself closes out the origin of hip-hop as a street art and sets up a season two to explore the Golden Age.

Oh, I forgot that quote. Had to be Booger!

Oddly enough, I spent a couple of hours one day researching the origin of "douchebag" as a pejorative. It was used by one of the characters in "Stranger Things," which felt odd to me given that show is set in the 80s. Douchebag didn't really become a common insult until the 2000s, primarily as a way for TV comics like

The comparison to Dear White People feels pretty necessary because one of its plots covers the exact same territory: Why black houses at college universities aren't self-segregation. And it does so in a smarter, more compelling way.

I tend to defend GRRM when fans complain about his glacial writing pace. He is not our bitch after all, and there are plenty of other books I enjoy reading.

I was kinda disappointed that the camera cuts away before Dizzy and Thor kiss. Aren't we way past that, like since Dawson's Creek era?

It went by quickly and I'm not sure I followed exactly (agreed with the jarring tonal shifts), but Mylene expresses regret for her "Toy Box" performance. I think we're supposed to assume that she and Jackie are going back to the more wholesome stuff, minus the religion, which brings Yolanda back into the fold.

Shooting the kitten was a bit much.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned all the cameos in the final episode. Dee Dee Ramone just hanging out in Jackie's room at what I presume is the Chelsea and inspiring Mylene to find her voice again. That was Grandmaster Caz (aka Casanova Fly) who joins the emcee groups on stage and, notably, performs the same lines

"The band’s been fairly consistent over the last decade," said no Depeche Mode fan ever.

Hah! Haven't heard of DOF.

I've heard of DAF, but I'm not that familiar with them. I don't speak German so I typically listen to bands that sing in English.

VNV

That guy's the first bit on the next record.
