I believe"stark relief" in this idiom refers to the kind of pressed in sculpture called relief. A stark relief would be one where the differences between the pressed in parts and the pushed out were greater and therefore made the picture clearer. So to throw something into stark relief means to make it clearer or more

"Stark relief" means "highlighted contrast." Don't ask why.

Yeah. I really thought he'd be the next great Asian action star after The Protector came out.

In this case, I do believe the word relief is being used in it's artistic/sculptural sense.

"Stark relief" is a phrase meaning obvious by its difference, like a well-defined bas-relief sculpture.

A "relief" is like a painting, but the image is formed with carving or sculpting instead of pigment. A "stark relief" would be one where the image stands out, well, starkly against the background material.

Definitely. It's like extremely vulgar Shakespeare in the old west.

Deadwood is one of the best things that has ever happened in the history of mankind.

Coulson and May theorized that the alien would nitrogen to breathe, which is why Sif said no nitrogen-breathing aliens appear humanoid. This Kree only needed nitrogen to appear pink.

I too was thinking Frost Giant. But about liquid nitrogen, yes the Kree are humanoid but he didn't need it; his weapon did. I think.

Bobbi is his truncheon.

When it comes to children and the shaping of their personalities, people often overestimate parental influence. The two most important factors are really genes and the wider social circle of the child. So yes, it would make sense that someone who gets told they're the shit by their parents, and can find confirmation

A disclaimer for Ferengi would have been racist, I suppose.

And thus, Ultimate Frisbee gained a popular new move...the Picard Maneuver

The Picard Maneuver!

I thought he was pretty good in 'The Town' though it has been a while since I watched it.

he looks so much more POWERFUL than any other screen Superman. But then you get the smile and you know everything is ok. THAT is Superman. Seriously he looks like jaws in that gif, just unstoppable .

I feel like I read somewhere that he served in Korea, but after the ceasefire. I'm trying to remember where I got this from, but I can't just yet.
