Thanks for sharing this link again this year Hamilton. Even if people are in jail for hateful or violent crimes, they don’t ever deserve to be raped. No one does. I hope these cards give the recipients some comfort, however ever small it may be, during what I am sure is a very lonely holiday season.

Why do you get benefits? Shouldn’t you just do your “stupid” job for the wage?

sure, but minimum wage or similar doesn’t really cover the amount of crap hotel housekeepers have to put up with. often, literal crap. they clean up a lot of crap.

That’s great! But perhaps you should read the article where it discusses other methods that may work as well.

And can you guess what that wage is? I’m going to guess $7.25-$10 an hour. So that’s like $15k-$20k a year at full employment. So what was your point again?

You’re a bit correct in noticing that tendency. There’s a strange (to me) idea that being a “victim” of a crime is disempowering, so instead people choose to identify with a word that feels more empowering. They “survived” a violent crime. I’ve never been comfortable with the dichotomy that it sets up, but it’s mostly

BOOOOO!

Tipping culture is so stupid

Why don’t you take a year to live on a housekeeper’s “hourly wage.” In the meantime, shut the fuck up.

yeah, some days i want to read all about it because i want to know that im not alone; other days, it’s all i can do to keep from bursting into tears at my desk at work because i HATE knowing other people have been through it too.

So do waiters — but they’re shit and don’t support them... If you’re in the US, tip. Simple as that.

I generally tip every day, instead of one lump sum at the end of my stay. This ensures proper distribution among housekeepers that may or may not be rotating responsibilities.

I just got my first massage - it was included in a spa package. And that massage was wonderful. Used heated rocks, worked on the parts of my neck and shoulder that had been hurting, and afterward I felt like a mass of relaxed jelly.

Because for some of us, it’s the only intimate contact we will get in the course of a day. And I don’t mean that in a sexual sense. Non sexual intimacy, for people who are not in any kind of relationship, is important and can make you feel a little less alien and isolated.

Says someone that’s never had one. It may only be bullshit, because once it’s over you lose that awesome feeling. But having even someone that doesn’t know what their doing rub your neck and back feels amazing.

No, you’d have over half-a-million dollars worth of Bitcoin. When you went to go and cash it out, you’d be in for a rude awakening...

If you’d put $5000 into Google in 1996, you’d have a shitload of money. WTF is your point?

If you put $5,000 into a humor detector on January 1, 2017, then you’d be able to comprehend the meaning behind my comment today. Have fun with that knowledge.
