Soil composition in northern Michigan is very sandy. It’s actually called Kalkaska sand and it is the official state soil (yes, Michigan has a state soil).

I actually had the opposite reaction... the design of the fantasy sequences was so over the top "cool" it just felt obnoxious to me. It was like the Poochie of action movies.
