I’m working in the gaming industry and we also got told “maybe learn Chinese as a third language”

The problem with that, however, is A) the choice Mandarin vs. Cantonese and B) that either of those is so hard to learn, you might as well just don’t and hope you get through with English.

It’s not bad too know if you are going to be living or working extensively in China for your own benefit. And it can help in certain situations, but from my own experience trying to learn mandarin the cost to benefit just isn’t there for it. Its like learning Danish or Swedish, it’s nice, but everyone you meet in

“and that he will “never be his happy go lucky self [sic]” again.”

JK Rowling too...

Except she’s probably just a millionaire, missing that last comma. Sad!

Buying a Honda Insight is still the worst decision he’s ever made, a problem somehow solved by the second worst decision he’s ever made.

He was! He was also in the movie, if I'm remembering correctly as a police officer outside of the Alamo.

Oh, yeah. Wealthy donors or politically connected douches do this, even in public universities. The outcome, in my limited experience (as a white, male, senior prof) has been “yeah, no, chief.”

It was a political philosophy class with a professor who had actually worked with Rawls before he died. She also taught a gender and philosophy class that would sometimes spill over into the political philosophy class (because duh).

He did parliamentary, not policy. It’s extemporaneous.

Cruz did parliamentary debate in college, not policy. It’s not at all about facts and figures but about argumentation. Without wishing to dox myself, I saw him debate once, and he was very good. But his fatal weakness was that he couldn’t handle people making fun of him. The opposing team did, very well, and he lost.
