I really don’t know what to tell you, in my opinion old FFs (I - IX, don’t know about X, XII) were way more complex and gave you more control over the battle and the party. Not only because of items, weapons, armor and so on, but also because of the combat mechanics.

Graphics, sound, gameplay, design, mechanics. Everything can be perfect, but it’s useless if those element don’t really work together.

I don’t see what was strategic about the combat system. It was repetitive and the paradigm mechanic was really annoying. There was even an Auto-Attack function which could take away the last piece of control you had over the fight. :D

Well i always knew about FF but i was never intrested except for FF Mystic quest (SNES) which i played back in the 90s. 3 years ago my gf introduced me to FF VII and it was an incredible experience. 1. Combat system. It needs to be complex and put the player in a position where he/she needs use the brain and think in a tactical way. The worst example of combat system would be the one from XIII. Boring, incredibly simple and not rewarding.
