The current Maxima has their ubiquitous 3.5-liter V6 pumping 290 horsepower to the front wheels. I'd bank on that engine sticking around for this car, though I'd love to see an all-wheel drive version, or better yet even rear-wheel drive, although I know that's incredibly unlikely.
Isn't the IIHS the group best positioned to take this on? Seems like a natural extension of the work they already do. And they already have a reputation for being an independent and thorough testing & safety body.
