My IRA's are matched to their yearly limit both through privately managed and employer managed programs. I also have a percentage dropped into a rainy day fund all before I see my paycheck. This is just one more stop-gap. It works for me. Probably wouldn't work for many others.
I've thought about that, but I use the return as a forced savings plan. The money I get back gets EFT'd into my IRA, or some other investment/savings plan. Otherwise, I know I'd just drop the extra 200/month on whatever the crap du jour is.
I make a decent salary, but I donate nothing to charity, am never sick, have no student loans, own no property, and have made no taxable income on investments. The standard deduction is THOUSANDS more than what I could deduct.
