The disjointedness of how this season was presented had a specific narrative reason, but really it wasn’t even as disjointed as it seems at face value. The only parts that were disjointed were Bernard’s. Everything else, minus a few flashbacks which were obvious flashbacks, was presented linearly. All of the other…
I mean thats not what happened at all but I bet it makes you feel better to believe that.
Let’s note that plenty of fans disappointed with this film are totally okay with what happened to Luke and more upset that the second act was taken up with dull, nonsensical space chases and jarring casino planet visits.
Leia knew Holdo was a trash-tier leader and saw an opportunity to unburden the Resistance.
To be specific, we don’t get anything from focusing on her parentage and then being told they’re nobody. It is build up with no pay off. There were plenty of force users of no particular pedigree. The Skywalkers were just special.
Ho boy. Here we go.
How were they anything but a mystery?
Except they haven’t tried to make the galaxy big in this new trilogy. There was never a sense that either the Resistance or the First Order are fighting over thousands of planets. Look at the scale of this movie. The First Order, terror of the galaxy, has this one fleet. The Resistance is down to a few hundred people.…
He mentored her for all of what? A week. I guess he might still be able to help as a force-ghost or whatever, but the role of training seems to have been much diminished in this series. Rey is pretty much Kylo’s equal without any kind of real training.
I kinda think he must have been lying to her. Luke shows up in her flashback on Jakku, Leia asks Han “Who is she?”, and we don’t see the answer but later on she hugs Rey (a stranger) before Chewie. She doesn’t have to have some grand lineage, but clearly she’s been involved in the story for longer than she knows.
But there’s not a big difference between “you can only be special if you come from a special family” and “you can only be special if you’re chosen to be special by an omnipotent power.”
OK, but they still have to have some sort of connection from before The Force Awakens, right? Or why else would Kylo Ren have the the big reaction when Finn is on the run with a girl from Jakku? Plus, why else would he know enough about her to know who her parents are?
Felt the same. I like it fine, but it made me miss JJ’s pacing and sense of fun, which I didn’t anticipate.
Strongly disagree. Both the acting awards were well deserved. Unless you think Alexander Skarsgaard was slumming it from... what?... Tarzan?
