@kwisatz kidd: My guess would be that the frequencies that wifi operate over are less susceptible to interference from your hand. Another possible explanation is that it uses a different antenna, or the antenna terminates before it is anywhere near where your hand can touch it... Or maybe still, you're just lucky.

@Matt0505: For the record... You don't need to root it to use the internet on your laptop... I use pdaNet (available free from the official marketplace on the evo) and can either tether via usb or bluetooth. Works great, no rooting involved.

@dotuletz: That could be the power supply, if it's a cheap PC (assuming you're saying the "computer" started smoking, not the hard drive). Try plugging the drive into your computer to take the files off...

@Special K: I'm pretty sure it's just based on the frame of the Avensis... It doesn't share much beyond that. For example, they offer an awd system on the avensis... Personally, I think that would be an amazing option, and it would have been something I'd have paid for.
