Your headline is misleading and wrong, as is the first sentence of this article. He was charged with murder, but not convicted. There is a big difference between not being charged at all and being charged and acquitted.

I agree the sentence was harsh and the guidelines for contempt charges need to be changed, but this was mostly a problem of Deandre Somerville’s own making. Had he taken jury duty seriously instead of blowing it off, he would have avoided a contempt charge entirely.
