I was hurt by homeopathic medicine, in the sense that my mom would take me to these quacks instead of to a real doctor, cause real medicine would “disrupt” my treatment of completely useless diluted sugar pills. So I’d have fevers so high I’d convulse while being given sugar pills and cold baths, and so on.

That’s funny, because I’ve had just the opposite experience. The PT had me come back twice a week for six weeks, and aside from hot/cold compresses and a toned-down version of my usual weight-room routine, didn’t do too much else. If I’ve thrown my neck/back out to the point where I can’t turn my head, I'm going to

I’d argue that they are as much a compliment to a doctor as a telephone psychic is a compliment to a shrink, so like, not at all. But I’m a cold-hearted bitch like that.

Homeopathic medicine is probably not going to hurt you because the entire theory behind homeopathic medicine is to dilute the active substance to the point that it doesn’t actually exist in the finished product.

That’s fair. I would want to weed those people out, too. Hell, I enjoy a bit of recreational shooting, but I still don’t want to keep a gun in my home.

the fact that they’re licensed by the state and accept insurance says nothing of the efficacy of their “treatments.” It simply speaks to the fact that they are an effective lobby/special interest group.

UGH food control! The My Kid Is An Intolerant Snowflake thing in regards to food is the new anorexia. Yes, plenty of kids do have genuine allergies and medical conditions, but so many people just read one internet article and decide “my kid too!”

I think the buzzword they use is integrative medicine. It’s a way for woo-woo peddlers to have their services accepted by insurance companies.

“My son has strep and the doctor wants to give him antibiotics. What can I give him instead.”

This honestly reads like satire.

I hope the placebo effect outweighs the risks you may be taking with “herbal” remedies.

I would imagine, given that they seem like super reasonable people, that if someone were to say, “I work in law enforcement and keep my guns locked up when I am at home” and showed them a badge they would make an exception.

There is no such thing as “complementary medicine”. There is Medicine and there is Bullshit. If “complementary medicine” had any basis at all in scientific fact, it would be called “medicine”.

So, no, Naturopaths remain snake oil salesmen of the highest order.

Well natural and homeopathic are two totally different things. ‘Natural’ medicine can be extremely harmful because it’s not regulated in any way and nobody knows what exactly the components of it do. Homeopathic medicine is probably not going to hurt you because the entire theory behind homeopathic medicine is to

They 100% belong in jail, if someone decides not to feed their kid but instead give them water when they are hungry we would expect them to be in prosecuted. So someone who refuses to medically treat a sick child deserves jail. I actually have no time for any of the religious groups that don’t believe in blood

Her first answer in the whole thread is amazing. When asked what element of natural parenting is worst she said this:

Naturopaths shouldn’t be allowed to treat anyone no matter what their age.

I mean sure, you can start with remedies that don’t work. But as you said definitely get your kid (or yourself) to a doctor when that doesn’t work.

Even their damn naturopath told them to get their asses to the hospital.

I don’t know about criminal charges, but their other children need to be taken away. These white people get to keep their children, meanwhile Native American families have an uphill battle getting theirs back from white foster parents who never had the option to adopt. FFS.
