It’s more a sharing the moment thing. 

When I was a kid, my parents laughed at me crying with happiness over a Christmas present.   It may well have been an affectionate parental chuckle but to me as a kid it felt like my happiness was a joke to them, so I spent much of the rest of my childhood trying to show any feelings around them.
