Virtual Dub is a popular program that will also do AVI splitting. There's a nice guide here:

The "catch" with MediaFire used to be paragraph 5 of their TOS, which granted them pretty much full rights to anything you uploaded there. They have since revised the paragraph to clarify that those rights are only so they can host your files. I would still be wary with uploading personally-created content, though.
