Rivian has consistently, quietly, and with great maturity, kept pushing forward with development in a way that’s rightfully earned them a great degree of admiration. Had I the technical skills to be able to pick and choose one company to work for, that’s where I’d hang my hat.

See THIS is why I believe in Rivian.
Their CEO isn’t a massive fucking prick (very much the opposite) and they waited until they had actual functioning vehicles out testing in the real world before they even officially announced what they were working on.
Obviously, it very well could all be sloppy and cobbled together

That's why I don't understand calling people who buy stocks after they were issued "investors." They didn't invest in the company, they are playing market games.

Tesla has a pretty decent lead over the other guys, in many senses from technology to experience(as far as EVs go), to infrastructure.

Apple definitely was not always profitable. They damned near went under during the Mac clone era, and Microsoft bailed them out. But they have one hell of a lot better track record than Tesla. And selling gadgets is always going to have massively better margins than selling cars. Especially if you are selling cars and

“Tesla also puts out a lot more PR work than other companies do, especially when it comes to upcoming projects.”

You’re the one who says that they must be overcharging their cells because they have better km/kwh results than everyone else. You can’t ignore aero with that kind of claim. And yes, their aero is better than everyone else because their FEA folks outrank their styling folks unlike traditional automakers.

Mostly a software guy, but I am finishing up an STM32 based ECU capable of everything from spark only to full turbo EFI control.

tesla can collect, store and convert the fuel required to operate the vehicles they sell.

I just rewatched that segment.

Nobody cares about your take on Tesla. Much more educated and informed people have been making this case for years and yet they have defied the odds. This is clickbait trash. I miss good Jalopnik

The first three decades of Apple’s existence were also a roller coaster, with many rocky periods.

What is your evidence that Tesla is overcharging their cells beyond whatever Panasonic rated them at?

Tesla is a tech company, energy company, auto company, solar company, forward thinking company and there isn’t a single analyst out there that understand it as they are all siloed into their own vertical. Also, only about 15-20% of the stock is owned by retail and speculator investors (hedge funds) so the price

Sandy Munro and his battery expert Dr Mark Ellis say Tesla’s big advantage is their electronics which according to them are “decades ahead of everyone else

Sandy Munro, who makes his living tearing down cars and telling other automakers how much each part costs, thinks they are easily a decade ahead on batteries, controllers, and motors. And he was pretty anti-Tesla until he got to tearing down the Model 3's controllers and battery pack.

“Major player in electric utilities” isn’t far off. The battery/storage side of things is growing into a demand that is also growing. That ‘million mile’ battery tech seems to be panning out.

That’s the bet being made.

Meanwhile, at Nikola

One side of the coin is that there is a liquidity problem with too much money trying to find someplace to park.
