Some people just have a routine. If you mess it up the whole rest of their day is off.
Stephen Colbert is part of the liberal media’s anti-bear fear campaign. How often does the media talk about the number of lives bears save every day? Never, because they don’t want you to know the truth.
Lunch? What kind of communist shit is this? You get your parents to give you $10 every day and shop at one of our fine on-campus fast food restaurants.
The only way to stop a bad bear is with a good bear. Ban bear free zones!
It’s not just provocative, it’s adversarial. The inherent premise is that whiteness is a problem, and if you don’t buy into the premise going in, you’re not going to succeed in the course. This is a course that’s for the professor to spread his message, not for students to have meaningful discussion.
Someone else said it and I agree, it’s the clickbait of course titles. It’s meant to be provocative, controversial, and adversarial. The problem is no one is going to take this course who isn’t already 100% prepared to buy in to the premise. There’s not going to be any meaningful discussion of racial issues because…
“The Problem with Hispanic Culture” doesn’t make it any better...in fact it kind of makes it worse.
I’m not white. Guess I learned I have a problem with white people today. The internet is so helpful...
“Whiteness” is a construct designed by a particular group of people in order to exclude particular other groups and deny them their rights.
No white people didn’t invent us vs them. Us vs Them is part of all territorial mammals ingrained programming. ‘If you’re not part of my tribe, you’re a threat.’
You told me to reserve judgment before until I looked it up. I proved to you that I had looked it up.
I read the course description and looked up the professor before I commented. He’s a rapper who goes by the stage name Professor D and performs with a group called the Dope Poet Society on a record label called Justus (sic) League Records. He’s also a white guy born in Canada...
I agree with you that the name is likely what caught the eye and ire of the nincompoop legislators. If the same syllabus existed but the class was titled something like “constructs of racism” or “race and identity” I doubt it would have been brought to anyone’s attention. You’ve got to pick your battles and this just…
I have a problem with the course’s name. If there was a class called the “The Problem of Blackness,” or “The Problem of Hispanics,” or “The Problem of Jewishness” this website would be up in arms. Being born a particular way isn’t a problem. Nor should it be treated as such.
No matter what state you live there are asshole redneck rightwingers. Just drive 15 minutes outside any city. I lived in Massachusetts for over 20 years, the number of right wingers in the most liberal states isn’t all that different than the number in the most conservative states.
I’m not defending Texas lawmakers—but the state of Texas has a very strong economy with key industries in tech, oil & gas, renewable energy, agricultural production...the list goes on.
