No. The shield in jousting is attached to the armor, not held. The non-lance hand is on the reins at all times. The shield is also just a tournament thing and it’s meant to give your opponent something to aim at.

Excellent point. It is impossible to charge with a spear on horseback without 2 hands. You need to hold yourself onto your horse with significant force because of those pesky laws of physics. I want to contribute to a discussion I saw on last night’s thread about Jaime and his charging straight at Dany instead of throwing it at her. People were saying those weren’t throwing spear, I beg to differ:

My dad’s 70 something, he walks with a cane and probably needs back surgery, he sure as hell isn’t playing golf or climbing mountains. My mom’s not 70 yet and she’s had both knees replaced and has arthritis so bad some days she can’t drive.
